6.22.22 ~ taking time

I’ve been taking a break from the producing side of art. Last winter my wife and I moved to the country with our cats. While shoveling snow, burning twigs, and eventually, watching once-barren trees grow lousy with leaves, I found my curiousity again. What the pandemic deadened, the country, and rest, and space from the internet, rekindled.

The systems that require the human body to function like technology do not look favorably upon break-taking. And yet, all my favorite artists seem to work in their own time. If art making is to be as natural as watching something grow, then it must be sustainable. And endless production is not sustainable.

There is nothing sentimental about this. Allowing myself the space to be slow, to be curious without a result-driven directive, has been life affirming. Terrifying, yes, and an act of deepest trust with myself. I wish that every artist might be gifted this experience, we all deserve the safety to be quiet for awhile.

I am grateful for those of you who will be there on the other side. I dream still of the shows we will share when the time is ripe. Till Then!

4.16.21 ~ praying for miracles

We of the stage are praying for miracles. The creak of wood, the twinkle of dust in a hot-beamed spotlight. We see ourselves best in the glint of a spectator’s eye. Blooming in whoops and jeers, we glitter under scrutiny. The Princes of nightlife are bejeweld lizards simmering in satin and baking in talcum to preserve our makeup for the act of rebirth. Summon us to your pleasure. We live to inspire.

I dream of a stage and heels where your fantasies meet my wildest dreams.

On a personal note, I am going by my married name these days. Me, my wife, and our future children are the Wilders. We are cats and queers, scholars and freaks. I take comfort in the knowing that our love will always be strange and dearly us. Our home will hold place for curious and wayward souls.

See you on the stage, someday (soon).
